1918 marks the beginning of the Kangol brand. Founded by Jacques Spreiregen after he returned from WWI, he began as an importer of French Basque berets which have continued to be a staple of the Kangol line ever since. During WWII Kangol provided the Berets for the British army which helped them gain notoriety. In the 1950s Kangol introduced the iconic 504 shape into their line. Over the next couple of decades Kangol expanded worldwide and became a staple of the hat world. Their hats were most known in the golf and music worlds. In the 80s LL Cool J wore the Kangol Bermuda Casual on the cover of one of his albums and subsequently wearing Kangol hats through most of his career. Today Kangol is one of the world's most popular hat brands, producing fashion forward styles alongside their classic hats.
