Stetson Hats
In 1865 John B. Stetson borrowed $60 from his sister to rent a small room and launch his own hat business. In 1870 he purchased a building on the northern outskirts of Philadelphia which would eventually become the largest hat factory in America. At the turn of the century Stetson had become a household name through John B. Stetson's innovative marketing and leadership. In the 1920s Stetson produced fashionable hats for all the latest fashion trends which were worn by all the hot stars of the Jazz Age. Stetson managed to stay afloat through the Great Depression and bounced back during World War II where they produced thousands of hats for the military. To this day Stetson is still a major household name with most people using the name Stetson interchangeably with western style hats.
